Son of William and Mary Ann Roe (Formerly Murphy), of 4, Sacheverel Street, Derby. He went to France on the 8th of September 1914 and died of wounds on the 21st of November 1914, aged 31. One of three brothers all of whom fell.
Buried: Derby (Nottingham Road) Cemetery, United Kingdom. Grave 48600 (C.).
His brother Private James Murphy 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment also fell in the Great War.
