Born at Hasland, Derbyshire. Son of Robert Spencer and Francis Sarah Moss, of 96 East Street, Grassmoor, Derbyshire. He was a labourer prior to enlisting 14th October 1914 at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He went to France 28th February 1915 and died of wounds, 4th July 1915, received due to German shelling whilst on a working party near Ypres.
