Born and lived in Nottingham. Nephew of Mrs Wells, of 12, Owen Street, Gordon Road, Nottingham. He was an apprentice iron moulder prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He went to France on 28th February 1915 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, age 23, in the attack on Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
