Born at Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire and lived at Mansfield. He was a hairdresser prior to enlisting at Bolsover, Derbyshire. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 39, whilst serving in the line near Givenchy, France.
