Private John William Morgan

Battalion: 1/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born in Leicester and lived in Nottingham. Son of John Thomas and Hannah Morgan, 18, Bullivant Street, Alfred Street, Central. Nottingham. He was a litho printer for Priestley and Swan prior to enlisting on 21, April 1914 at Nottingham. He went to France on 28th February 1915 and was admitted to No. 10 General Hospital, St. Omer, on 27th August 1915 suffering from defective vision. He was transferred to England, on 13th September 1915 and returned to France on 1st June 1916. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 24, during the attack at Gommecourt, France on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
