Born at Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire and lived at 30 Newcastle Street, Huthwaite. Son of William and Florence Moakes, of 124, Sutton Road, Huthwaite, Mansfield. Nottinghamshire. He was a coal miner at New Hucknall Colliery prior to enlisting. 22nd August 1910 at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 2nd March 1915 and was kill in action, 15th June 1915, aged 25, during a German raid on the line at Kemmel, Belgium.
