Born at Sheepbridge, Derbyshire. and lived at 17, Nelson Street, Nottingham. Son of Emma Mitchell, of7, Byron Square, Byron Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. Husband of Lucy Mitchell, of 17, Nelson Street, Nottingham. He was a beer bottler prior to enlisting on 19th June 1914 at Nottingham. He went to France on 3rd May 1915. Was wounded on 20th September 1915 and transferred to England. He returned to France on 15th March 1916 and was killed in action, 5th May 1916, during the German shelling of the trenches near Canal Bank, Ypres, Belgium.
