Born at Grassmoor, Derbyshire. and lived at 74 New Street, Grassmoor. Son of George Thomas Miles and of Harriett Sideswell (formerly Miles), of 47, Revell Street, Grassmoor, Chesterfield. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was killed in action, 16th September 1916, aged 19, whilst serving in the line at Verquetin, France.
