Born and lived at Branston, Staffordshire. Son of John and Fanny Mewis of Village Street, Branston. He was an outdoor general domestic servant prior to enlisting at Buxton, Derbyshire. He went to France 29th August 1915 and was killed in action, 16th January 1916, during the German shelling of B Company billets, in the Hospital at Ypres, Belgium.
