Lance Corporal William Albert Mewis

Battalion : 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Clapham, Bedfordshire and lived at Belper, Derbyshire. Son of Arthur and Clara Jane Mewis, of Queen Street, Belper. He was a potter prior to enlisting 15th November 1909 at Belper. He went to France 1st March 1915 and was appointed Lance Corporal 16th April 1915. He died of wounds, 3rd August 1915, aged 23, from gunshot wounds to his right thigh and foot.
