Born at Walsall, Staffordshire. Son of Fred Mears. He enlisted at Walsall and was killed in action, 20th September 1917, in the attack on the German lines at Shrewsbury Forest, south-east of Hooge, near Ypres, Belgium, in the Battle of Menin Road, during the 3rd Battle of Ypres.
