Born at Nottingham and lived at 20, Connaught Street, Radford, Nottingham. Son of James and Mary May. He was a professional soldier and had served in India. He went to France 4th November 1914 and was killed in action, 4th March 1917, in the attack on the German positions near Moislains, France.
