Born at Renton, Derbyshire and lived at Pleasley, Nottinghamshire. Son of William and Mary Ann Massey, of 18 Hillmoor Street, Pleasley. Brother of E. A. Massey, of Fenny Compton, Warwickshire. He enlisted at Mansfield, Derbyshire and went to France on 27th August 1915. He died of wounds 8th July 1916, aged 20, received on the 1st July 1916 at Ovillers, France on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
