Born at Old Basford and lived at 103, Bateman Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. Husband of Florence Elizabeth Mason. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting on 28th July 1904 at Nottingham. He went to France on 18th September 1914 and died of wounds at sea on 1st October 1914, aged 35, aboard Hospital Ship Carisbrooke Castle.
