Born at Wormhill, Derbyshire and lived at 9 Upper End, Peak Dale, Derbyshire. Son of Thomas and Caroline Mason, of Upper End, Peak Dale, Derbyshire. He was a shunter for Buxton Lime Firm prior to enlisting 11th September 1912 at Peak Dale. He went to France 28th February 1915 and was killed in action, 16th April 1915, aged 25, whilst digging a communication trench at Kemmel, Belgium.
Buried: Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery, Belgium. Row E. Grave 44.
