Company Sergeant Major Arthur Maskell

Battalion : 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born and lived at Thorneywood, Nottingham. Son of Joseph and Harriett Maskell, of 5, Grove Cottages, Thorneywood Lane, Nottingham. He was a professional soldier and enlisted at Nottingham in 1905. He went to France 4th November 1914 with the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was later transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 14th February 1916, aged 32, during heavy German shellfire and the explosion of a German mine, prior to the German attack of the front line trenches, near the canal to the south-east of Ypres, Belgium.
