Born At Brampton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of Edward and Elizabeth Martin, of 76, Mountcastle Street, Newbold Moor, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He enlisted at Chesterfield and was killed in action, 24th December 1916, aged 21, whilst serving in the line south of Ypres, Belgium.
