Battalion : 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire and lived at 60, Dalestorth Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield. Husband of Emma Marshall, of The Meadows, Nottingham. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting 27th April 1915 at Mansfield. He went to France 1st February 1916 and suffered gunshot wounds to his abdomen and heel, 26th September 1916. He was treated at 3rd General Hospital Boulogne, France and rejoined his battalion 4th January 1917. He was admitted to 8th Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, France, suffering a sceptic ulcer of the hell and was transferred to England, on Hospital Ship St. Dennis, 28th February 1917. He returned to France 15th June 1917 and suffered gas poisoning, 10th August 1917. He was treated at No. 35 General Hospital, Calais, France and transferred to England 17th August 1917. He returned to France 12th December 1917 and was killed in action, 17th February 1918, whilst serving in the line near Wallenmolen, Belgium.
