Born and lived at Clowne, Derbyshire. Son of George and Mary Jane Marshall, of 111, High Street, Clowne. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting on 1st December 1914 at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He went to Gallipoli on 1st July 1915 and was appointed Lance Corporal on 19th December 1915. He went to France on 28th June 1916 and was promoted to Corporal on 30th January 1917. He was killed in action, on 8th June 1917, during the British attack at Wytschaete, Belgium.
