Born in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire and lived at New Street, Underwood, Nottinghamshire. Son of John and Ann Mansfield, of 43, Tower Street, Gainsborough. Husband of Fanny Mansfield. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Nottingham and died of wounds, 23rd July 1916, received in the attack on the German positions near Maltz Horn Farm, France during the Battle of the Somme.

Buried/Commemorated : La Neuville British Cemetery, France. Plot 1, Row D, Grave 36.
