He was born at Duirinish, Invernesshire, Scotland. Son of Roderick and Margaret Mackinnon, of Husabost, Dunvegan, Skye. He joined the 2/8th Battalion as Second Lieutenant, 6th August 1915. He was killed in action, 7th April 1917, aged 25, during the attack at Le Verguier, north-west of Saint Quentin, France.
