He was born at Blythe, Nothumberland and enlisted at Cramlington, Northumberland. He was awarded the M.M. London Gazette 16th August 1917 “For gallantry and devotion to duty when in the attack on the enemy positions at Messines Ridge, 7th June 1917” He was killed in action during an advance against German lines near Mount St. Martin, France 5th October 1918.
