Born at Nottingham and lived at 69, Portland Road, Waverley Street, Nottingham. Son of Sarah Lucas of 8, Moorgate Street, Radford, Nottingham. He was a butcher prior to enlisting 10th May 1915 at Nottingham into the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was posted to the 19th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 6th March 1916 and was posted 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to France 5th May 1916. He suffered gunshot wounds to his head 3rd September 1916 north west of Thiepval, France, during the Battle of the Somme and was treated at 134 Field Ambulance before being transferred to the 1st Canadian General Hospital at Etaples, France, where he died of wounds, 19th September 1916.
