London Gazette date 4th March 1918 : At Poelcappelle on 4th October 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He went forward with his platoon commander and attacked and captured a machine gun emplacement, killing several of the enemy. He showed such courage and energy that he was always well ahead of his comrades, and by his skilful rifle fire he caused a machine gun which was being carried away by the enemy to be abandoned. 

Died : 15th June 1918.
