Born at Ripley, Derbyshire and lived at North Wingfield, Derbyshire. Son of William and Emma Leverett of Hepthorne Lane, North Wingfield. He was a Coal Miner prior to enlisting on 17th August 1909 at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was appointed Lance Corporal and went to France on 4th November 1914. He suffered gunshot wounds to his face and was transferred to England on 4th January 1915. He returned to France on 18th March 1915 and was promoted to Corporal on 13th April 1915. He was appointed Lance Sergeant on 24th July 1915 and promoted Sergeant on 3rd July 1916. He was transferred to England again on the 20th August 1916 suffering from shell shock and died of heart failure, on 23rd July 1921, at the ministry of pensions war hospital at Cannock, Staffordshire.

He was awarded the M.M. Military Medal. London Gazette 10th August 1916 ” For gallantry and devotion to duty during a heavy German artillery bombardment of the trenches near Hersin, on the 18th and 19th May 1916, when much damage was caused to the Sap which was expertly rebuilt during the night.”

Buried: North Wingfield (St. Lawrence) Churchyard, United Kingdom. Row D. Grave 45.
