Born at Cubley, Derbyshire and lived at 19, Uttoxeter Road, Derby. Son of Alfred and Mary Ann Leese, of 294, Smalley Road, Derby. He was an errand boy prior to enlisting at Derby. He died of wounds, 6th May 1917, aged 21.

Buried: La Chapelette British And Indian Cemetery, Peronne, France. Plot 2, Row D. Grave 5.
