Born at Nottingham and lived at 22, Hornbuckle Street, Radford, Nottingham. Husband of Mary Elizabeth Lee. He was a lace factory hand prior to enlisting 20th May 1915 at Nottingham. He went to France 6th March 1916 and was killed in action, 10th October 1916, during the attack on the Schwaben Redoubt, near Thiepval, France during the Battle of the Somme.
