Lance Sergeant John Land

Born at Belper, Derbyshire and lived at Matlock, Derbyshire. Son of Jerman and Caroline Land, of Bonsall, Derbyshire. Husband of Ada Land, of Hazel House, Crown Square, Matlock. He was a Nurse Attendant prior to enlisting 9th September 1914 at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was appointed Lance Corporal 11th November 1914 and went to France 28th February 1915. He was promoted Corporal 25th August 1915 and appointed Lance Sergeant 2nd July 1916. He died of gunshot wounds to his head, 14th January 1917, age 39, at No. 20 Casualty Clearing Station, Warlincourt, France.
