Battalion: 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Hasland, Derbyshire and lived at North Wingfield, Derbyshire. Son of William and Mary Emma Knowles, of 4, Alma Cottages, North Wingfield. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He went to Gallipoli 1st July 1915 and was killed in action, 9th August 1915, age 25, in the attack at Ismail Oglu Tepe, (Chocolate Hill), Gallipoli, Turkey.
