Born and lived at Long Eaton, Derbyshire. Son of Henry Joseph and Ellen Knowles, of 31, Recreation Street, Long Eaton. He was a Colliery Pony Driver prior to enlisting at Derby. He died of wounds, 12th October 1916, aged 17, at No. 34 Casualty Clearing Station, Meaulte, France.
