Battalion : 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Portsmouth, Hampshire and lived at Shirebrook, Derbyshire. Son of Rose Askey, of 9, Merchant Street, Shirebrook. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He went to France on 27th August 1915 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Ovillers, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
