Born and lived at Eckington, Derbyshire. Son of George and Rose Jones, of 76, Sitwell Street, Eckington. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Mosborough, Yorkshire. He went to France on 27th August 1915 and was killed in action, on 1st July 1916,  during the attack on the German positions at Ovillers, France on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
