Born at Nottingham and lived at 40, Hooton Street, Nottingham. Son of Alfred and Annie James, of 43, Hogarth Street, Carlton Road, Nottingham. He was a box maker’s errand boy prior to enlisting at Nottingham. Killed in action, 17th July 1916, aged 20, whilst in the line South-East of Trones Wood, West of Maltz Horn Farm, France, being heavily bombarded by tear gas and gas shells during the Battle of the Somme.
