Private Ernest Jackson

Battalion: 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Perlethorpe, Ollerton, Nottinghamshire. Son of William George and Emma Jackson, of Perlethorpe. He was a Blacksmith for Lord Manvers on the Thoresby Estate prior to enlisting on 26th August 1914 at Ollerton. He was posted 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to Gallipoli on 1st July 1915. He suffered from dysentery and was treated in hospital at Suvla Bay Gallipoli, on 14th December 1915, being transferred to Hospital Ship Rewa, on 15th December 1915. He was then transferred to No.12 Stationary Hospital at Mudros, Turkey on the 18th December 1915 and St. John’s Hospital, Malta, on 29th December 1915. He was transferred from there to England on Hospital Ship Britannia on 25th January 1916. Once in England, he was treated at the Birmingham War Hospital from 10th February 1916 until 1st July 1916. He went to France on 6th June 1917 and died of wounds on 5th March 1918, aged 22.
