Born at Kensington, London and lived at Tamworth, Staffordshire. Husband of Sarah Hughes of 18, Marshall Court, Tamworth. He was a Coal Miner prior to enlisting into the 19th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 12th December 1915 at Tamworth. He was posted to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to France 17th October 1916. He was posted 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. 2nd November 1916 and 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 17th June 1918. He was killed in action, 25th August 1918, whilst serving in the line near Oppy, France.
