Born and lived at Gloucester. Son of Edwin and Mary Ann Hughes, of 8, Archibald Street, Gloucester. He was a Draughtsmaker prior to enlisting 30th June 1915 at Gloucester in to the General Service. He went to France 11th July 1915 and was posted to the 15th Labour Company 17th August 1915 then posted to the 11th Labour Company 22nd March 1917. Transferred to the 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 29th September 1917. He was posted to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was posted missing. He was taken prisoner of war and died 29th March 1918.
