Sergeant John William Hucknall

Born and lived at Burton Joyce, Nottingham. Son of Frederick and Winifred Hucknall, of 11, Woodside Villas, Main Street, Burton Joyce, Nottingham. He was a blouse warehouseman prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He served in Gallipoli with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, during 1915. He was transferred to the 17th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 18th October 1916, aged 20., by a German shell whilst serving in the line near Martinsart Wood, during the Battle of the Somme.
