British War and Victory MedalBorn and lived at Norwich. Son of Albert Edward and Elizabeth Hovell, of 89, Grove Road, Norwich. He was a dental assistant prior to enlisting 28th July 1917 at Norwich. He was transferred to the 52nd Bedfordshire Regiment, 12th December 1917 at Clipstone Camp, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 4th April 1918 and was transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 7th April 1918. He was killed in action, 13th October 1918, aged 19, in the attack on Neuvilly, France.
