Son of Phoebe Houston, of 34, Devonshire Cottages, Barrow Hill, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Went to France on 14th July 1915 and was killed in action, on 14th February 1916, aged 28, during heavy German shellfire and the explosion of a German mine, prior to the German attack of the front line trenches, near the canal to the south-east of Ypres, Belgium.
