Private John Henry Hoult

Battalion : 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born and lived at Stapleford, Nottingham. Son of William and Ruth Hoult, of 26, Osmaston Street, Sandiacre, Nottingham. He was a coal miner (pony driver) prior to enlisting 26th June 1914 at Nottingham. He went to France on 27th December 1914 and suffered gas poisoning on 14th May 1916. He was treated at No. 22 Casualty Clearing Station at Brouay, France and then transferred to hospital at Rouen, France, 17th May 1916. He rejoined his battalion on the 10th June 1916 and was wounded again in April 1917 whilst on a working party clearing mud from the roads at Aizecourt, France. His spade struck a detonator which exploded causing wounds to his leg and cheek. He died of wounds, 30th August 1917, aged 23, received at Messines, Belgium.
