He was born on Christmas Day 1883. Son of Gilbert and Florence Pickard Houghton, of Walthamstow. Husband of Suzanne Houghton, of 10 The Drive Walthamstow, London. He assumed command of the 17th Battalion (Welbeck Rangers) Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment following the wounding of Colonel Milward and assumed command of the 16th Battalion on 20th August 1917. Killed by shellfire near Battalion Headquarters 13th September 1917, aged 34.
