Born and lived at Brampton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Husband of Martha Ann Hopkinson of 15 Charles Street, Brampton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was a Plasterer prior to enlisting on 19th September 194 at Derby. He went to France on 27th August 1915 and was promoted to Corporal on 1st October 1914 and Sergeant on 22nd July 1916. He died of wounds, on 31st July 1916, at 57th Field Ambulance, Albert, France.
