Born at Clowne, Derbyshire. He enlisted at Clowne and was killed in action, on 8th October 1916, whilst in the line near Montauban, France during the Battle of the Somme.

Commemorated : Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
