Bom at Cape Town, South Africa. Son of Jan Hendrik Hofmeyr and Fanny Margaret Hofmeyr, of Oak Lodge, 8 Welgemeendu Street, Cape Town. He went to France 1st January 1916 and was commissioned 25th April 1917,. He was killed in action, 27th October 1917, age 28, whilst serving in the line at Hill 70, near Mazingarbe, France.
