Born at Ilkeston, Derbyshire and lived at Nottingham. Son of Henry and Sarah Ann Hill, of 21, Milk Street, Glasshouse Street, Nottingham. He enlisted at Nottingham and went to Gallipoli, 1st July 1915, with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was posted to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to France where he died of wounds, 16th August 1917, age 38.
