Private Gilbert Dexter Herbert

Battalion : 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born and lived at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of Arthur and Hannah Herbert, of 54 Lordsmill Street, Chesterfield. He was a wallpaper errand boy prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He went to France on 14th July 1915 and was killed in action, 14th February 1916, aged 20, during heavy German shellfire and the explosion of a German mine, prior to the German attack of the front line trenches, near the canal to the south-east of Ypres, Belgium.
