Private Alfred Edwin Henstock

Battalion : 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Chesterfield, Derbyshire and lived at Newbold, Chesterfield. Son of Thomas Henstock, of Brockwell House Farm, Newbold, Chesterfield. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting on the 27th April 1915 at Chesterfield. He went to France 6th March 1916. He suffered burns to his face and hands on the 29th April 1916 and was treated at No. 7 Casualty Clearing Station, Merville, France. He returned to duty 17th May 1916 and was killed in action, 3rd September 1916, whilst supporting the attack (carrying parties) near Beaumont Hamel, France during the Battle of the Somme.
