Born at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and lived at 42, Sherwood Street, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of Joseph and Eliza Haynes, of 27, Unity Street, East Kirkby, Nottinghamshire. He was a coal miner (pony driver) prior to enlisting at Newark Nottinghamshire. He went to France 1st September 1915 and was killed in action, 16th March 1917, age 23, whilst serving in the trenches near Gommecourt, France.
