Born in London and lived at 15 Back Park Street, Derby. Son of Mrs Charlotte Gray, of 9, St. Peters Street, Old Radford, Nottingham. He was a labourer prior to enlisting on 5th June 1915 at Derby. He went to France on 9th December 1915 and was posted to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 10th December 1916. He suffered gunshot wounds to his right thigh, on 31st October 1916 and was admitted to the 10th General Hospital at Rouen, France, on 2nd November 1916. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship Asturias, 8th November 1916. He returned to France on 28th July 1917 and was posted to the 2/6th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 23, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
