British 15 Star, British War and Victory MedalBorn and lived at Brampton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of Mrs Betsy Hayes, of 121, Chatsworth Road, Brampton, Chesterfield. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Chesterfield. He went to France on 14th July 1915 and was killed in action, 14th February 1916, aged 33, during heavy German shellfire and the explosion of a German mine, prior to the German attack of the front line trenches, near the canal to the south-east of Ypres, Belgium.
